I met Kevin and Elizabeth back when my ministry transitioned from student ministry to college ministry at First Christian Church. They were college age. We did a mission trip to Mexico and I committed a pretty big unpardonable sin towards both of them and Teresa Cooke. It was one evening and they were finishing up a tile job at this house. The rest of the group was ready to go eat. So we left and went to this really good little hole-in-the-wall place, we had found the year before, we called it the “goat-meat” place, it was just real authentic beef. I totally forgot about Kevin, Elizabeth, and Teresa. We fed our faces and we went back to where we were staying. Someone gave them a ride back and when they came onto the property I was like “Oh! I’m so sorry!! Can I take y’all to get ‘goat-meat’?” “No, no, no,” he said and he hasn’t let me live it down since.

But one of my favorite stories, was when I was asked to do their wedding. We were behind the scenes at the church and Kevin, the best man, Timothy, and I were standing backstage. Elizabeth had a surprise he didn’t know about. So the bridesmaids were coming in and there was a certain song that we were supposed to come out on. But she hired this bagpipe player to play a song because he loves bagpipes. So the bagpipe player started to play and the look on his face when he heard that… I just wish I would have been able to capture that moment. I remember that was such a sweet moment and then trying to describe that to her… she could only imagine what her surprise did.

Kevin and Elizabeth and I have always been very close. Kevin knows that if he calls me I will tell him the truth and I know if I call him, he will tell me the truth. We are always very straight forward with one another. And then to see them investing in my son and daughter-in-law, that blesses my heart big time as a Dad— to see it come back around. They are able to say things to Andrew and Valerie that I would never even think to say or have the opportunity to say because of their life group. Andrew, Valerie and I were talking about this the other night because they were talking about how much they really love Kevin and Elizabeth and how sweet Elizabeth is and how incredibly witty Kevin is.

For these reasons and many more. I would like to honor Kevin and Elizabeth Johnson and my Clients of the Month!
